Salvation Unfolds: With Sufficient Grace

During the season of Epiphany, we are getting to know Jesus better and better. Today, he presents the differences between a life built on faith in him and one built on faith in created things, including ourselves. In Jeremiah, we are warned Cursed is the one who trusts in man…whose heart turns away from the Lord. In our Gospel reading, Jesus offers warnings, too. Those who live for the temporary comforts of life in this world will suffer ruin and devastation. Jesus is not saying we cannot have any joy in this life, but if temporary joy is our priority we are destined for a life of misery. Too many things break and decay. Too many loved ones disappoint us and die. Christ came to restore and regenerate the people and the world he made. Behold, I am making all things new! (Rev. 21:5) This powerful grace is sufficient for us in weakness, weariness, and worry.
