Salvation Unfolds: With Surpassing Glory

Today’s readings and songs center on a glimpse of glory—the Transfiguration of our Lord. The glory of God’s chosen and beloved Son is different than the glory of Moses. Moses reflected God’s glory, but the glory was never his own—so it faded. The glory of Jesus is different and it has always been Jesus’. As we, too, are invited to the mountain with Jesus’ inner circle of disciples, we observe the dazzling glory of our Anointed Lord. As Jesus speaks with Old Testament giants, Moses and Elijah, they discussed what was about to happen—his suffering, death, resurrection and ascension. All this was for sinners—people like Moses, Elijah, Peter, James, John, you and me. Our glorified Lord, God’s beloved Son, sacrificed it all for your salvation. Jesus Christ’s preparation for his departure gives us confidence and direction for ours. God in his grace has caused the light of his glory to be seen by hearts of faith in the face of this Jesus Christ.
