Psalms of the Summer: Goodness

What do you want from God? We know that the correct answer includes a host of spiritually-minded matters, but does that really capture our prayer life well? If we are honest, our cries and groans are often about physical things and material matters. Jesus cares about those things—and has demonstrated that in feeding the 5,000 instead of sending them away to fend for themselves. Yet, the Son of God did not come just to fill bellies or to make life more comfortable. Christ has come to give us true bread from heaven—to ransom us from our wickedness and to fill us with his righteousness. That is our greatest need. Paul warns us to not underestimate our spiritual needs or weaknesses as our Psalm assures us of God’s faithfulness in our times of trouble or distress.
