Follow Me: And Have It All

How do you know when your values have changed? Our values are set—and reset—by our hearts and our minds. Yet, they are not totally undetectable. What you value can be seen in how you operate. Today, we meet two different men who have value struggles. Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, and an unnamed rich young man. At first glance, they have little in common. One is a servant to a man who is not rich. Another is a wealthy and influential young man. But they both struggle with greed. Gehazi opportunistically tried to wet his beak when he felt Elisha was too easy on Naaman. The rich ruler left sad when Jesus told him to sell all he had and give it to the poor. What can we learn? Whether you are struggling or flush with cash, the temptation toward greed is powerful. Praise be to Jesus who was always rich, yet became poor, so that we might be rich toward God and gifted a new perspective on wealth and more godly values and selfless practices.
