Acts of God: Attention & Care

The problems we find in our Scripture readings may be unfamiliar to us, but they are not unrelatable. In our Gospel reading, experienced fishermen face their greatest fear—an overpowering storm. As they are bailing water out of their boat, they are shocked to find Jesus sleeping. They cry out to their teacher Don’t you care? How many times have we wondered and worried much the same? As we enter into monsoon season here, we are reminded once again that we cannot control the weather. Sometimes, we can barely predict it! But our confidence is not in our own abilities to predict or plan around the storms of life. Our faith rests in Jesus, the One who is not to be taken for granted, but the One who can always be trusted to do what is good and right for us.
