Acts of God: Development

How does the kingdom of God expand in this world? Many tactics have been tried. People have used military might, political power, or the promise of temporal happiness to expand the kingdom of God. These tactics may make the kingdom of God appear to grow in its sphere of influence and the number of people who submit to its authority, but it is a hollow development. Fake growth. Unspiritual. Terror cannot raise the dead. Peer pressure does not make the blind see. Promises of wealth and happiness will not cajole rebels to lay down their arms. None of these tactics can win souls for salvation. Only the Gospel does. Today, Jesus speaks of the Gospel as a seed—reminding us that the growth of the kingdom is organically planned and carried out by the God who made all things. We advance God’s kingdom in how we proclaim and practice this Gospel. The message of Christ—unconditional & sacrificial love—gives us peace and the power to forgive sin.
