Losing It All: Losing Suddenly

Today’s worship focuses on God’s patience. Often times we observe tragedy in our world and in our lives and wonder why did God allow this all to happen? How can he just sit back and watch all this? Like Moses, we feel like God is present at the wrong times and selecting the wrong people. In our Gospel text, Jesus reveals to us why God is so patient. Look at how he views the fruitless fig tree. In that fig tree we see ourselves—how for long periods of time we’ve produced little to nothing. But the Lord’s servant is patient, even with us. He gets his hands dirty. He feeds and nourishes us—he stands in our defense, too. He provides for us ample warnings and examples about where evil leads. So many of the children of Israel died faithlessly. But our Savior continues to make intercession on our behalf & cultivate new growth.
