Living in Tense Times: As a Living Sacrifice
We must know our identity and purpose in this world in order to navigate these tense times. Today, Jesus tells us who we are. We are not his cannon fodder, his salesmen, or his associates. We are his trusted servants. This is a great honor. But with this great honor comes a great call to faithfulness. We have been entrusted with the mysteries of God—his undeserved love and his incomprehensible wisdom. What will we do with these treasures? There is a temptation to tuck it away safely so that we never misplace it. But God rebukes this idea in our Gospel reading. God has given us his great treasure so that we will put it to use. How do we do that? Our lives must reflect our confidence in God’s achievements and his promises. We know we need God to cleanse us from our crimson sins, and we know we need God to help us live lives that bring glory to him in all we do. God will do both things because he is always faithful!
