Living in Tense Times: Faithful Even Under Attack
During the Middle Ages, most relied upon the Roman Catholic church to tell them what the Bible said about God’s truth and his plan of salvation. Over time, the purity and clarity of God’s Word was rejected and replaced by the thoughts of men. As a result, people believed they were saved based on their good deeds and generous gifts. On October 31st, 1517, Martin Luther begged for a return to God’s Word by nailing his 95 theses on the door of Castle Church in Wittenberg and sparked the Reformation. He pointed to Scripture’s testimony, that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Today, we celebrate God’s grace to us in reforming his Holy Christian Church and bringing us back to the truth of his Word. Only when we know who God is can we trust in his power, his grace, and his salvation!
