Acts of God: Testimony

Israel had three annual pilgrimage festivals—the feast of Passover, Tabernacles, and Weeks. The Lord timed his outpouring of the Holy Spirit with this third pilgrimage festival which was celebrated seven weeks and a day (or fifty days) after the Passover Sabbath. On this day when the city tripled in size, the Lord chose to grow his Church. Through the words of his Apostle who had been filled with the Holy Spirit, life was breathed into dead sinners. The harvest that Jesus had been speaking of was coming to fruition. On that day, three thousand people were brought to repentance and the saving waters of Baptism. But this work was not a one-off. As Peter pronounced, the promise of Christ is not just for those who happened to be there that day. It is also for the coming generations and all who are far off—all whom the Lord would call.
