Acts of God: Real Rest

How do you read the Law? This may sound like a question for lawyers or judges, but it’s one every single person ought to be able to answer. How do you understand the Law of God? Is it just something to try your best to shoot for? Is it just something that makes us feel bad about ourselves? The Law is not meant to destroy an honest heart or puff up a prideful one. Rather the Law points us to Jesus, who is the fulfillment of the entire Law. In the case of scoffing slothfulness, Jesus shows us that Law has real power. God’s demands must never be confused with suggestions. In the case of slavish legalism, Jesus is courageous enough to stand up and say that the Law never prohibits us from doing what is good. The Law does not rule over us but it is for our good. The Law points us to the One who rules all things for our eternal good. Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Law of God and stands as our Substitute for all God’s demands. His righteousness is credited to us so we can rest!
