Spared: Redeemed & Reunited

In this last week before Holy Week (Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, & Easter Sunday) the cross and the tomb are coming into view even more clearly. A ransom must be paid to set us free from sin. In our Gospel reading, we see the horrific rebelliousness of the people of Israel. Though they had been God’s chosen people, they had grown scornful of his generosity, faithfulness, and love. They even abused his prophetic servants and conspired to kill his Son. Yet, God is committed to keeping all his promises. He sends his Son on a mission of mercy—giving of himself what none of us in this world could get for ourselves. Though we are all, by nature, deserving of God’s wrath, we have instead received his mercy and even his grace. This grace doesn’t just bring about our salvation, but also our transformation. By God’s grace we are made God’s glorious handiwork!
