Enduring Joy: The Joy of Clarity

This morning we learn about Jesus’ priorities. At the beginning of his public ministry, Jesus was a popular guy. Who wouldn’t want to see a man who can completely heal anyone who is sick or suffering with anything—and heal them instantly, too? While his miraculous power is making quite a stir among the people of Capernaum, Jesus makes a point of devoting himself to prayer. He had not come to gain popularity, but to seek and save the spiritually lost. This kind of eternal healing and restoration to life comes to a person by faith, believing the undeserved love of God is for you. It’s no wonder Jesus devoted himself to preaching! What did he preach? It is the message that runs through the entire Scriptures. God is not only powerful, he is compassionate. He rejoices in redeeming and strengthening his people.
