The Lord's Prayer has been prayed upon every continent and in a variety of situations. It has been offered by worshipers from the safety and solitude of soaring cathedrals and by soon-to-be martyrs facing the danger and dread of public execution on account of their faith. The way Jesus taught his disciples to pray has united, strengthened, and equipped the Church throughout all ages and places.
Because of its prominence in the lives of Christians, we are going to spend the next weeks considering what we are praying in each petition. As we do so, we will see wonderful things in the Lord’s Prayer. We have a Father who knows us rightly, hears our cries for his mercy, guides us according to his grace, and meets all our deepest needs perfectly in the person and work of his Son, Jesus Christ!
